Homecoming September 23–26, 2021Homecoming 2021 Welcome toDear Fellow Alumni, I am delighted to welcome you to our 2021 Alumni Homecoming. Thank you so much for joining us. The pandemic has changed all our lives in significant ways, not least our ability to travel and meet friends and family. This homecoming then is especially sweet as it will be a hopeful indication of new opportunities after our necessary pause last year. We know that not all who would like to be here have felt able to travel yet in safety and our prayers and thoughts will definitely be with them. However, with double honor classes this year, we anticipate an outstand- ing weekend of events and celebration. There will be some unique events for you to enjoy this homecoming. We are particularly pleased to welcome our BSCF alumni for the BSCF Alumni and New Life Fellowship 30th Anniversary Celebration Weekend with the Deliverance Mass Choir 25th Anniversary Concert Celebration on Sabbath. On Thursday late afternoon we will have an important naming event: the Car- scallen Mission Workshop. This new space will be the hub for mission project design and construction by the School of Architec- ture & Interior Design, and will be named after the former dean, Carey Carscallen, who exemplified servant leadership. On Friday we will rededicate the historic sundial in its new location in honor of the combined 80 years of transformative service given by Donald & Rebecca May. On Sabbath we will have the Seminary’s Church History Suite Dedication honoring the much-loved Walter Douglas as well as a Retirement Recognition Reception for Bruce Closser and Beverly Matiko, English professors who made a profound impact on the lives of students. In recognizing six retirees in different ways this weekend, Carey Carscallen, Donald & Rebecca May, Walter Douglas, Bruce Closser and Beverly Matiko, we will also be recognizing the rich heritage of this University because of those who have committed years of valuable ser- vice to this learning community. Finally, on Sunday we will have the inaugural Bradley Family Harvest Run, renamed after a val- ued friend of the University. But these unique events are not all you will enjoy this weekend! Key an- nual events will again include the Wes Christiansen Golf Tournament, the Homecoming Parade, the Harvest Picnic, the Classic Car Show, a Campus Bus Tour and Class Photos plus various departmen- tal open houses and other events. The Spirit of Philanthropy & Homecoming Banquet for honored class members will also take place on Thursday evening. This will be particularly special this year as we will recognize double honor classes (the Classes of 1970 and 1971) this year after 2020 Homecoming was cancelled. As you can see, the homecoming weekend will be full of activities and opportunities for you to engage with the current Andrews University campus as well as renew acquaintances from past years. We so much look forward to meeting you as we have missed seeing our alumni over the last 18 months, both on our campus and around the country. Welcome! Andrea Luxton presidentPlease note that masks will be required to be worn in the public spaces inside Andrews University campus buildings regardless of vaccination status, per University policy. By registering for and attending any Homecoming events, you agree to adhere to the following: STATEMENT OF SHARED RESPONSIBILITY AND ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF UNIQUE CIRCUMSTANCES We are living in unique and uncertain times. None of us knows for sure what the future holds, but at Andrews University we know this—we are going to have a full University experience this fall. We are working hard to ensure that whatever shape the curriculum and co-curriculum takes, it will continue to be the excellent, collegial and productive expe- rience that drew you to Andrews University and to all that we cherish. At this point we have made the decision to provide an on-campus Homecoming experience in as full a way as possible. COVID-19 Safety Protocols We are committed to meeting federal, state and local health guidelines in all we do. Of course, in the current fluid environment, we cannot promise that the situation will not change. If it does, and we are forced to move to more remote delivery of events, we will do so with your safety in mind. Please understand that whether on campus or remote, a few things are certain: § Andrews University holds as paramount the health, safety and welfare of every member of its community, and we take seriously our responsibility to create an environment where those principles drive our decisions. § Having said that, none of us can guar- antee what shape COVID-19 will take, and none of us—including Andrews University—can guarantee a COVID-19- free environment. Unfortunately, this is simply not feasible and that means that there is an inevitable risk of infection that we voluntarily accept as we work, visit campus and participate in events. § Taking steps to minimize the risk of COVID-19 infections (or any other spread of disease) at Andrews University is a shared responsibility. Every member of our community—including you— must do their part. This means adhering to national, state and local health guidelines and requirements, as well as adhering to those measures that Andrews University deems safe and appropriate for its campus. An- drews University reserves the right to impose guidelines that exceed the requirements of the various health agencies. Specific details will be provided as circumstances dictate, but this may include such things as requiring temperature checks, social distancing, contact tracing, wear- ing masks or other facial coverings, using other PPE, not attending events if sick, and isolating and quarantining when required. You agree to do all of this not just for yourself, but for the safety of others, and because this is consistent with the Andrews University Covenant of Care. § In complete transparency, you understand that if you return to the physical campus of Andrews University, there is a risk you may contract COVID-19. Despite the University’s efforts to comply with all COVID-19 mitigation recom- mendations, we cannot categorically guarantee this will not happen. You come to campus ac- knowledging and understanding this possibility. § Finally, if you are traveling to the campus of the University to celebrate Homecoming, any ex- penses incurred in advance for travel, lodging and other costs will be your responsibility to handle, not the University’s, should circumstances change and require a remote Homecoming experience for some currently unplanned reason. For current ongoing statistics about COVID-19 spread at Andrews University, please visit the University’s COVID-19 Dashboard. If you experience any of the following during Homecoming, please do not attend events or access campus. § Tested POSITIVE for COVID-19 in last 10 days § Close contact with confirmed/probable case § New or unexplained loss of taste or smell § Temp above 100.4 F/38.0 C or chills § New unexplained cough, sore throat, congestion or runny nose § Unexplained diarrhea or vomiting § Unexplained new fatigue, muscle or body aches § New or unexplained shortness of breath or difficulty breathing Notify the Office of Campus Safety at 269-471-3321 or safety@andrews.edu if you feel ill or test positive for COVID-19 after attending Homecoming events.Thursday, September 23 1:30–5 p.m. Registration Alumni House Backyard Tent Take advantage of the opportunity to visit with classmates and page through yearbooks as you enjoy refreshments.
